MRSA or Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus has, in recent years, become a dangerous and important issue in the sports world. Many NHL and NFL Players have been hospitalized due to bacteria from their equipment entering their bodies through a cut or abrasion, these infections can be limb-threatening and even have resulted in death.
All athletes are at risk. Many young children, as well as high school and college athletes has developed serious infection from MRSA. These infections have resulted in lengthy hospitalizations and treatments with potent antibiotics. Reducing the bacteria in the equipment, without making the equipment wet, is essential in preventing these harmful infection.
